An opportunity is available for a committed and motivated candidate to undertake a full time Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR31120) apprenticeship.

This is an excellent opportunity to receive ongoing mentoring from experienced staff and gain valuable hands-on experience in a supportive and friendly environment where safety is a priority.

About the Role

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will gain and develop the required skills to successfully complete the requirements of an apprenticeship in a Heavy Diesel Trade. You will receive extensive on the job training as well as formal TAFE training to support your development throughout the journey.

Duties may include:

• Assist in servicing, repairing and maintaining firefighting and emergency vehicles, equipment such as aerial appliances and hand-held firefighting equipment.
• Assist in acquiring parts, components, and consumables for repairs or maintenance.
• Participate in training in areas such as Introduction to Firefighting, 4WD Operations & Recovery, OEM and more.
• Support acceptance tests and pre-delivery inspections of new vehicles and equipment according to Australian Standards.
• Participate in vehicle recovery and movement activities as required.
• Operate and learn to use specialized equipment such as overhead cranes and vehicle hoists.
• Assist with record keeping such as worksheets, inspection forms and fault reports.
• Build and maintain stakeholder relationships and escalate issues when necessary.
• Perform cleaning and housekeeping duties.
• Assist in attending to urgent work outside of normal working hours.
• Undertake other duties as required.

Requirements:

• Successful completion of Year 10. – Please refer to webpage South Metropolitan TAFE – Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology to give you an understanding of the required school grades.
• “C” Class Driver’s License.
• Willingness to commit to work and study.
• Sound communication and computer literacy skills.
• A genuine interest and general understanding of the Heavy Diesel trade.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical.
• Provide a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) prior to commencement.
• Successful completion of a Certificate II Pre-Apprenticeship in a relevant Trade (desirable).
